ABSTRACT:
Ice sheets are currently experiencing drastic changes,
which drives demand in projections of their contribution to sea level rise with reduced uncertainty.
The dynamics of ice sheets is modelled as a well lubricated non-Newtonian fluid
using continuum mechanical principles. Boundary conditions are governed
by the interaction with atmosphere, bedrock and ocean.
Due to numerous non-linearities and poor understanding of some processes,
it is a challenging field for modellers.
In this talk I will present the general approach of ice sheet models, simulation and coupling strategies. A special emphasis will be lying on inverse modelling, ice sheet hydrology and its applications for Greenland.
